Andrew Sandberg If you still haven't gotten an answer yet, it goes
The Last Wish (ironically)
The Sword of Destiny
Blood of Elves
Times of Contempt
Baptism by Fire
The Tower of Swallows
The Lady of the Lake
Agnieszka Kaczmarska *EDIT* 5 years later upon rereading The Last Wish I realized its better to start with that one, then move on to The Sword of Destiny and Blood of Elves. Thank you.

In case anyone else is wondering: it is better to start with Blood of Elves
Todd Loyd I was completely confused for 33% of Blood Of Elves because I took the advice here. I think it would have clearly helped to read the prequels first. It was so frustrating to know, that I should "know" what's going on but had no basis for knowing.
Sarah I'm still in the process of reading the whole series so I'm not that qualified to write here but what I'm doing - the order:
Blood of Elves (book one of the consecutive series - read)
Time of Contempt (book two - read)
Baptism of Fire (book three - read)
The Tower of the Swallow (book four - reading)
The Lady of the Lake (book five - conclusion of consecutive series - to read)
The Last Wish (prequel to consecutive series - to read)
Sword of Destiny (story collection - to read)
Season of Storms (story collection - to read)
Apologies if any of my info is incorrect. This is the order I plan to read the books and so far it's worked great for me. Personally, I find "prequels" really annoying and confusing. I love this series so far, hope you guys do too.
Boris Budeck The whole plotline and sequence of books/stories is a mess. Some early books were written later to tell the stories that are referred to in later books. But all in all it was the decision of the author to create a story without exact dates and learning the chronology was made unnecessarily hard for the readers. The way the books of the final saga were presented didn't help either. I would have expected a title like "The Witcher Saga Book I: Blood of Elves".
