Did Cathy's ghost actually haunt Wuthering Heights? I think Heathcliff was completely insane by the end of the book, but that wouldn't explain why Charles Lockwood saw before he heard the story

Although, the ghost could have been conjured up since Lockwood was rereading Catherine's name repetitively and a little bit of Catherine's diary before he snoozed off. Also, Zillah seemed to put Lockwood in that room for a reason as if to prove there was this spirit roaming amongst them (he mentions it as he is trying to explain himself when Heathcliff finds him after his screaming). I suppose his mention of Catherine Earnshaw's ghost spurs Heathcliff's insanity. After, Lockwood leaves from his interrogation with Heathcliff, Heathcliff goes back to the room and screams for Catherine. As if Lockwood confirms the lurking spirit of Heathcliff's long lost (and dead) love. And thus, he goes insane :D(less)
