A Goodreads user asked Melanie Dickerson:

Hello Melanie Dickerson, I just ordered a whole bunch of your books on amazon and I just cant wait to they get here! The covers are beautiful. I love fairy tales and fables and your reviews are amazing. I just cant wait to start reading. My question is on the Hagenheim Family Series. Do you have to read them in a row or are they loosely tide together and I can start reading the first book that arrives? Thank you!

Melanie Dickerson Hi, Margarita! It's probably better if you read them in order, starting with The Healer's Apprentice. Other people have read them out of order and said they enjoyed them and didn't feel "lost." But the two main characters in The Healer's Apprentice are the parents of one of the main characters in The Fairest Beauty, The Captive Maiden, and The Princess Spy. Although if you get The Merchant's Daughter first, you can read it first, since it's only related to The Princess Spy.
I hope that helps to answer your question!
