I usually have at least two stories on the go at any given time, so as a general rule I can work on one while struggling to complete the other. If I can't manage to find it in me to work on anything though, I'll take some time out to do something else without thinking about writing for a few days (read, watch movies, etc). By the time I've done that, I'm usually ready to work on at least one of the pieces I have on the go again.
