If you had to give a age rating what would it be?

Denise I need to buck the trend here... I would say it is a great book for teens (12+ and possibly earlier if they are mature or coping with depression). Yes, there is profanity and inappropriate language, but if you've been around groups of teens lately, you'll know they won't be reading anything they haven't heard before. In the book, Allie is sharing her thoughts and feelings, and while they aren't PC, they are very concrete examples of what she feels like living with depression, lack of motivation, etc. My son was given this book as he was undergoing treatment for severe depression, and our entire family found it a really great starting point for understanding what he was dealing with, at a time when he didn't have the energy or words to describe it himself. It's a great book in general, and I highly recommend it for anyone who copes with depression or knows anyone who does!
Samantha I don't think it would be appropriate for people who understand most of the humor, people who aren't that old shouldn't be reading this. *takes a moment to think* Oh... I'm probably to young to have read this... I first heard about the book when I was 9 maybe 10 XD
Aj I think this book is for the open minded not really age specific. I'm not saying give it to toddlers but a mature person should be able to handle this book say 10+*. While it covers a serious topic like depression, the other stories are pretty light-weight and humorous.
*Books as short as this wouldn't have even fazed me at age 10.
MinaG *sigh* Well, I guess I'll go with majority rules and not read it because, well, 2 say 'adult' and 1 says '11+' I am 12, just turned about a month ago. I'm told I am very mature though. Still would you say too young for me?
Courtney I would also say adult from what I read - I did not finish the book. I found the amount of times the word "retard" was used insulting. (and I'm not easily insulted)
Lyla I think it's fine for kids 11+. I think that it's hilarious and that it also touches on some important topics that are important for kids to be educated about.
Jo Ellen Davis I would rate it adult just because of the adult topics and colorful language which is totally used appropriately. It is hilarious. A fun read which will take you back to your own childhood. She deals with serious topics, including depression, with humor. The illustrations are delightful.
Lois M It depends on how mature you are, honestly. If you have depression you should probably read this book.
fish 11+, if you don't count the dedication.
