I suspect that we have come as King readers to expect certain things from his work and this was just different. Not necessarily in a bad way though. What makes the book so haunting is the human mind (and trust me, it is plenty scary). I won't give a spoiler, but I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It was at times gruesome, but that is what made the book so compelling. I highly recommend it.(less)
