(view spoiler)[I'm hosting a bookclub discussion this April for The Underground Girls of Kabul. Is there anything we women in the states can do to assist the women of Afghanistan? I realize this question is incredibly naive. You make excellent points about the need to work with the men of Afghanistan to exact societal change. None the less, my heart broke when reading your Author's Note on Azita's wrenching present situation. (hide spoiler)]

Hi, thanks for choosing the book for the book club! And your question is not naive at all. I list at the back of the book some organizations whose work I know and have observed personally. Other than that, it may be worth questioning politicians on what they intend to do about Afghanistan other than just sending more aid money. All best, Jenny

Dear ma'am
I recently read your book 'The Underground Girls of Kabul'. I was wondering- what happened to Azita after she was compelled to leave her job with the European Aid Organization in 2014? I would be immensely grateful if you could answer my question.
I would also like to take this opportunity to tell you that I found this book extremely thought-provoking and inspiring.
Warm regards

I just finished your book (audiobook) - I find it fascinating that this goes on across the world in repressive societies and it has only now been brought to the surface. Excellent story, excellent work and very well written, thank you! Were you aware that 'bacha posh' existed before you began your research for this book? Or did you come across the practice by accident?

Have you read the novel "The pearl that broke its shell" by Nadia Hashimi? I was wondering if the author was inspired by your work on the practice of "bacha posh". I am currently reading the aforementioned novel and it prompted me to look up more information about this practice.
