Have you read the novel "The pearl that broke its shell" by Nadia Hashimi? I was wondering if the author was inspired by your work on the practice of "bacha posh". I am currently reading the aforementioned novel and it prompted me to look up more information about this practice.

Hi! I did the original nonfiction research into bacha posh, as evidenced by my NYT story in 2010. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/21/wor... Before then, there was no research and the term "bacha posh" did not exist online or in any newspaper archives. More information is here: bachaposh.com

I just finished your book (audiobook) - I find it fascinating that this goes on across the world in repressive societies and it has only now been brought to the surface. Excellent story, excellent work and very well written, thank you! Were you aware that 'bacha posh' existed before you began your research for this book? Or did you come across the practice by accident?
