Goodreads asked J.C. Andrijeski:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

J.C. Andrijeski Honestly, this is going to vary pretty widely depending on when you ask me...but also whatever stage the person's in as a writer and what their goals are. If you're a beginning writer and still in the skill-building stage then I'd give the standard advice...just write. Write a lot. Read a lot. Experiment. Work with other writers (those you trust) if you can. Don't be afraid to throw stuff away.

If you're writing primarily for money, then I'd have very different things to say than if money was a secondary thing, (and/or if your money requirements are relatively modest).

With all of the turmoil in publishing right now, I would definitely advise aspiring writers to "keep the drama on the page," as in...write and network with other writers and be friendly and learn from people but don't get too caught up in the politics going on in the writing community. But that would be true of most professions, I think.
