A Goodreads user asked C.E. Kilgore:

When you begin to write a series, do you map out more than one book at a time?

C.E. Kilgore Hello Heidi,

I don't tend to do any mapping at all when I write. I'm what's known as a 'pantster'. I write by the seat of my pants instead of planning things out in advance. I know mapping and planning works great for many authors, but it tends to bog me down or stifle my creativity. I just write, and what comes to mind is what gets put on paper.

When I start a new book, I don't intend for it to be a series, but it usually ends up that way. My brain is always imagining scenarios about the side characters, and those scenarios end up blossoming into squeals. I don't just do it for my books, either. My brain also does it for other people's books and TV shows, which is why I used to write fanfiction. I wanted to explore all those possibilities. Now that I write my own stories, I can explore all those avenues to my heart's content, and I love it!

Thank you for your question :)
