Nicole asked David Dalglish:

Hello. I recently got into your Shadowdance series, and I absolutely love how well your fight scenes are written. What kind of influences or research gave you the knowledge for writing such convincing fight scenes? Or was it all off the top of your head?

David Dalglish For starters, I grew up reading a ton of R. A. Salvatore's books, and if there's anything he can do well, it's write a fight scene. After that, I've got a lot of anime influence in me. Combine the two, and you get many of the fight scenes in my books, very stylized, often over-the-top. Beyond that, I try to just visualize them in my head, and the more complicated or important the fight, the more time I devote to each move, thrust, and parry. Make any sense?
