What do you think about a Robert Downey Jr. movie portrayal of Miles? This video clip of the actor doing pro-bono work brought the idea to mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEx5lmbCKtY

Cool vid, but the most intriguing part is not shown, which is the 3-D printer. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens with that technology.
Not sure what this has to do with a hypothetical Miles movie, though. Downey himself is too old to play Miles, alas.

Lois McMaster Bujold:
Other than being raised with a strong moral code and sense of noblesse oblige, it seems that despite the Council of Counts and the Ministers, the only real check of the Emperor’s power is the threat of the Emperor becoming disliked enough to send enough popular support over to a relative to win a coup, hence Yuri’s Massacre and Barrayar’s stated bloody history. Or has there been a balancing act of power shifts?

Hi Lois. I've been wondering about nonromantic relationships in your writing. It seems to me your intense friendships pretty much all have complex power dynamics -- you don't do simple strong friendship without either romance, or guardianship and authority and different sorts of control? Am I wrong about that, and if not are there conscious reasons for it? (I really enjoy the way you do handle power dynamics, btw.)

I just listened to the Curse of Chalion three successive times. Must be my age and lack of health, but I found him and his story to be profound. In these times where honor and truth seem so passé. I loved how he turned away from seeking glory and found such reverence for kindness. I dare not hope, but if your wonderful genius meets another such character, it would be a great gift. What do you think?
