Tabitha Jones asked Amy Lillard:

When writing do you start out using a timeline and jotting things down on paper or do you just go with the flow?

Amy Lillard I don't really use a time line unless I need for the book to take place or end at a certain time. I'm something of a plotter in that I like to know where the story is going. Once upon a time, I plotted extensively--like 30 to 60 pages. Now I start off with a detailed story idea--maybe 10 to 15 pages--then I start writing, As I go, certain things rise to the surface that need to be covered. I like having a plan but a little flexibility as well. I have learned over the years that allowing the story some organic growth only strengthens it in the end.
