What scientific research did you have to do to come up with the Neptune kids' conditions e.g. useless lungs, sensitive eyes etc. ?

Polly Holyoke I spent alot of time talking to doctors and biology teachers trying to figure how humans would truly have to change and adapt to be able to live in the sea. It was a fascinating experience, and I learned a great deal about genetic engineering in the process. I didn't realize we've been transferring genes between plants for a long time, and more recently, we've gained the capability of putting DNA from one animal into another. That's pretty wild!
