Do you have to read this series in order?

Anirudh Well.. even though this is a stand alone book, there is not much point in reading this first. The whole thrill of the book is about knowing who lamb really is. If you don't know who he is, what he is and what he has done in his life, many references which make this book a great read make no sense.
Andrew Yes, you should definitely read them in order! The book might be okay as a stand alone novel. But you'll enjoy the book much more if you read it as the 6th book in the series: First Law Trilogy, Best Served Cold, Heroes, and then Red Country.
Coby You can read and enjoy this book as a completely stand alone work... but... if you've read "The First Law Trilogy" you'll love it even more. I was thrilled to get to read some more about an old favorite, "Lamb" and an old acquaintance of his. Or read this book first and go back and read TFL series... that'd work too.

Sky This is late to answer, but just in case anyone else is curious, I'll say this: you do not have to read any other books to enjoy Red Country. This is the first book I've read by this author, and I was fine. I didn't feel like I was missing anything. You can tell that some characters might've shown up in his other books, but everything you need to know is here.

I read Some Desperado in the Dangerous Women anthology, and saw that it was a prequel of a sorts to Red Country, and so I picked this up. But you don't have to read Some Desperado any more than you have to read any of the First Law series.
