Michelle Nakagawa
Michelle Nakagawa asked Andrew Pyper:

What was the first book you remember reading that scared you? Did it frighten you enough to have to stop reading it to calm yourself before continuing?

Andrew Pyper I do not know (forgive my lack of contractions in these answers, by the way - I am in Quebec City and the keyboard is French and I cannot figure out how to do an apostrophe!!) what the first scary book I read was. But I remember the book that scared me the most: Salems Lot by Stephen King. It left me a nervous wreck when I read it at 11 years old! And you know, it was not so much the vampires that did it, but the way the small town was so much like the small town I lived in then and grew up in. It was the situation and setting of the book that got to me. It made me look at my neighbours differently, made me feel the potential threat in what I had assumed to be the normal, dull place I called home.
