Goodreads asked Annalisa Conti:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Annalisa Conti Alexander Williams came to me one morning, last winter: I had wanted to write some short stories for some time, and I was doing some research on old New York Times articles about extraordinary events happening to normal people in the city - what you would call local facts. Dr. Williams was the answer to how to connect different people, whose lives don't have much in common: a psychoanalyst in New York sees a very diverse humanity, and would have the perception and depth to solve even a complicated mystery.
