E. Francis
E. Francis asked Peter V. Brett:

I write sci fi i've been writing for years i dont think i'll ever be published should i just give up and disappear back to being invisible?

Peter V. Brett If your life is busy and filling in other ways and you just don't think being published is that important to you, no one is forcing you to write. By all means, follow your bliss.

But the words 'give up' sound to me like quittin' talk, and I'm no fan of that. I was writing stories since grade school, and worked hard at it for decades before my first book published when I was 35. I maintained a separate career and life, but made sure to leave time to keep honing my writing. I know great authors who broke out far younger than I, and ones that did after they retired. Being published is a great feeling, but a lifetime of challenging oneself artistically can have its own rewards.
