I love the Bosch books and I know that he was in Vietnam, but on the show he was in the gulf war, not Vietnam. Why the Gulf war and Afghanistan and not Vietnam? Kind of let down that the show didn't have the Accuracy of the books.

Michael Connelly We are shooting in contemporary Los Angeles. For a detective to have been in combat in Vietnam he would now have to be a minimum of 64. That is not realistic and would limit the lifetime of the show. We hope to get 5 or 6 seasons to tell the Bosch story. Harry wouldn’t be a police detective at age 70. So there was no choice but to update the story. It is a big change from Vietnam to Afghanistan but what is important is the experience and how it helped form him and lead him toward being the man you see on the screen.
