Goodreads asked Mark Daniel Seiler:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Mark Daniel Seiler I really love working with different editors, going word by word. They try to convince you that you don't need that character. Suddenly you're confronted with the choice: does this character live or die? When someone you love is in danger, you get brave and defend them, even if you may not know what you're talking about. It doesn't matter. "Leave my friends and family alone!"

Then you realize that the editor is probably right after all, and there goes a hundred pages up in smoke.

The author strings words together and weaves a tale. The story isn't complete once the book is published. It's completed right as the reader is reading it, mixing their own experience to those of the characters. This is the best thing.
