Richard Ferguson
Richard Ferguson asked T.R. Preston:

In order to experience joy, must there be suffering?

T.R. Preston I wanted to say yes when I first read this, but I think the real answer is likely no. If joy or pleasure can be described as chemical reactions in the brain, you could imagine a world where only that specific chemical reaction takes place in the brain at all. It's true that Christmas Day would lose its magic if every day was Christmas Day, but if you could turn off the area of the brain that allows you to get bored of a good thing when that good thing comes too often, then I guess you could love it indefinitely. If that's true, I don't think you need to suffer in order to experience joy.
