A Goodreads user asked Gail Carson Levine:

I was working on a first draft for NaNoWriMo, and now I just went to revise it, but I just realized that working on the draft just made me feel a whole bunch of dread and made me wanna scream and stuff... I don't really know what's going on. I have so many exciting ideas for it, but it somehow feels like I'm lugging the story in the wrong direction. Am I? How do I even know what the right direction actually is?

Gail Carson Levine If you save your drafts so that you can go back to them, then you don't have to stick with a direction that you don't feel is the right one. All you may lose is time, and you won't really lose that either because you'll be learning all the way. I think you may know that I love to revise. You can certainly scream--where's the harm?--but I hope you'll also have fun.
