Is the title a reference to the Silversun Pickups song? I kept waiting the whole book for some kind of connection or explanation, but if it ever came up I missed it.

Ana Apparently, the title is based on a 17th Century French book where the place names are emotional states rather than physical places. Kushner never makes it explicit, but I think she is referring to Sadie's emotional development, as well as to the creation of mankind.
