At the end of the chapter he says he is going to call her son. It was mentioned her son was a journalist with a top paper, my guess is the son came out with the story in the news and the Gardners and Maggie were arrested. It was mentioned when Frank tried to visit Maggie in jail she was the only one who had to serve, their money protected them from their crimes ( sound familiar?). Not sure why the author didn’t make this clearer, but I found it tragic and mostly believable. (less)

Anna I think the book said her crime was conspiracy, means she helped after the fact of the murder to cover it up.
