When you write your books, do you plan it or let the story flow and go where it goes as you write it?

Some authors are plotters. Some write by the seat of their pants. I'm a combination--a plantser. I have a general idea of what I want to happen. But once I'm writing, my characters surprise me, and ideas pop into my head that I never would have anticipated.
