Brett asked Lois McMaster Bujold:

Apologies if someone has already asked these: Have you read Everina Maxwell's books? They reminded me of your work, and I later found she lists you as a major influence. Also, were you involved with hiring Grover Gardner as a narrator of the VK books, and/or did you have any interactions with him as he worked on them? Miles has his voice when I read the saga. Thanks for writing your books!

Lois McMaster Bujold
I don't believe I've read Maxwell's work yet, no.

Blackstone, not me, hires their narrators; Grover came in on the tide from my point of view, although my literary agent knew and loved his work and was very pleased when he was assigned to my books.

We had a couple of direct contacts on pronunciation, a few times.

I did have input on picking the narrator for "Knife Children", because I wanted a male voice for Barr that was distinct from the female who'd done the tetralogy. Of the 3 or 4 audio samples Blackstone sent me, he seemed the one who best understood the dry humor of the tale.
