To whomever watched the tv series and read the book: Is the first season the whole book or is it just part of it? I really liked the show and I want to read the book too. Is it similar or not? (Please, keep it spoiler free)

Farren It is the same general story, but I preferred the show only because it was more in depth. I think they added some great stuff, like scenes with Nora and the priest that weren't in the book. The book does do a better job of explaining the Guilty Remnant than the show and I am glad to have read it, though. The season does cover the whole book and since there is no second book, season two will be "reboot" of season one, according to HBO.
Baelor The first season is a VERY loose adaptation of the book. The show covers the events of the entire book, but some of the stories are changed.
Chris Notionless spoiler free answer in a nutshell: yes. I actually read the book after watching the entire series (not usually my preferred order) but enjoyed the book greatly. Very inviting to read - was a little nervous was going to be "out there" but it ended up being a real page turner despite having some mild expectations of what might happen.
Suzanne The author himself has said that the first season of the series covers the book. The second season is nearly done. How fortunate that Perotta, as a co-creator, has remained to contribute and to keep the spirit of his book (and characters) alive.

Here's a great interview with the director and the author. http://www.npr.org/2015/12/02/4581431...
Rocio Anahi I notice more depth in some characters, the book is much more focused on the emotions of everyone in the "explanations " that those who follow the series perhaps looking for in the book. It does not include what has been hows econd season , only the first
