Catherine Nemeth
Catherine Nemeth asked Lois McMaster Bujold:

Re; Q&A below, can a demon have too many lives/get too dense for the human host to control even with temple training? Des’s age is noted as unusual, implying that most demons either die when they can’t jump to a suitable new host or they ascend and get taken by a saint before they reach Des’s age. Des is canny enough to realize what would happen if she ascends, but perhaps many demons can’t resist all that fun chaos?

Lois McMaster Bujold Yep. The answer to the problem is a saint, unhappily for the demon.

Joen's demon, from Paladin of Souls, might be an example of what happens when such a demon manages to avoid any saint for too long. See also, Tigney.
