This question contains spoilers…
(view spoiler)[When Pen dies, could he and/or Desdemona petition the White God to have her taken up with him, or is that not possible? (hide spoiler)]
Lois McMaster Bujold
Answer presently unknown, to either Pen or Des or their author. It is possible that if Pen is long-lived enough, their melding would have effects not feasible to be seen before in any other shorter-lived sorcerer-demon pairing. We're talking centuries here, not mere decades. Which would have other effects on Pen, over time, as everyone he's ever loved dies before him...
Or, y'know, it may not be possible, and the extended life the attempt by them both to stave off that inevitable end as long as possible, or till they're both ready to throw in the towel. A certain flavor of elegiac tragedy either way.

Lois McMaster Bujold:
I was lucky enough to be sent to work in the US for a couple of months back in October 1996, just in time for Memory in hardback and Cetaganda in paperback. You've mentioned before how your UK publisher dropped you after Paladin Of Souls (idiots that they were, in my opinion). I apologise if this has been asked and answered before, but how did Cetaganda not get a UK publication?

I just finished reading "Penric and the Shaman." Thank you. I enjoy both Pen and Des very much. I did notice something that interests me though. Nowhere in either Penric story or "Hallowed Hunt" Is Chalion mentioned (that I can find), although some other countries like Ibra and Darthica are. Is this because Chalion was too obscure back then, or did Chalion actually not exist that much earlier than Cazaril's time?
