Goodreads asked Kathryn Casey:

How do you get inspired to write?

Kathryn Casey Sometimes I think the cases I write about pick me; they literally seem to jump out at me from my morning newspaper. I specialize in Texas, my home state. It's an amazing place to be a true crime writer. Texans live big and bold, we're brash, and the crimes mirror that. Sadly, there's never a shortage of incredible murders in Texas. I look for cases I care about, the ones I feel compelled to understand. I want to know who the people are, what brought them together, and what led to the tragedy that ended a life. I look for a case with an interesting investigation, lots of twists and turns, like a good mystery novel. In the end, the plots are often so extraordinary, at times even bizarre, that I couldn't write them as fiction. No one would believe them. Yet, they're real.
