Yes, it is. I actually started with this book, and wasn't at all lost.

You can start from any of the books, when I started this one was the first that I read and then the last one, after that I realize that it was a serie and that it has an order... :)

You absolutely have to read the first 2! They won't have much to do with the 3rd one but they are excellent reads!
