Kathie Newell
Kathie Newell asked Tami Hoag:

If I wanted to try to start writing fiction, how would you suggest I get started? (I am a former journalist and public relations professional; so I have that kind of writing background. And I LOVE to write!) Thanks!

Tami Hoag If you have a story you want to tell, sit down and let your fingers do the talking. It's really as simple as that. Do you have a particular genre of fiction that interests you? If you're a reader, you've already done your homework. You know what readers of that genre like and expect in a story. A lot of people will tell you to write a detailed outline first. I'm not one of them. I don't write from an outline. I write a basic synopsis of the story and go from there. When you're ready to send your book out into the world, do your research on what publishers put out the kind of book you have. Or go agent hunting and find someone inside the business who can help direct you. Good luck!
