I'm afraid I'm not going to be very original - the secret is to write! Like everything worthwhile it takes practice, and more practice, and few writers are ever satisfied. Read about your craft. Connect with other writers. Seek feedback. Be confident. I never think my writing is good enough, but I reassure myself in the though that I am writing and completing books and, so far, I have had wonderful feedback from children in my target 9-12 age group.
