Robyn Collins I read, often a book a day until I feel my brain working and my imagination stirring; and I try to write something, even if only emails, to keep my writing practice going.
Robyn Collins The fun and joy of getting words on paper; the pleasure in inventing characters and stories; the control I have over my world.
Robyn Collins I'm afraid I'm not going to be very original - the secret is to write! Like everything worthwhile it takes practice, and more practice, and few writers are ever satisfied. Read about your craft. Connect with other writers. Seek feedback. Be confident. I never think my writing is good enough, but I reassure myself in the though that I am writing and completing books and, so far, I have had wonderful feedback from children in my target 9-12 age group.
Robyn Collins The 3rd book in the Entwhistle series. I have completed book 2 and I'm allowing it to percolate for awhile. In a month or so I'll do a final edit and start getting it ready to publish in July/August.
Robyn Collins I woke one morning with the first paragraph of the book in my head and the characters and plot followed from that one paragraph. I thought what if there was a young scientist who kept blowing up his bedroom. What would his parents do?
Robyn Collins I always have stories in my head and have to try to concentrate on one at a time. Ideas are not too hard, it's the discipline of sitting at my desk and writing that's hard. And I definitely cheat some days. I do find that if I force myself to start writing the words usually come. I tend to keep writing even when I know the quality needs improvement as I spend as much time on editing as the first draft.
