I don't understand how Dr. Wong would have benefitted by his murderous efforts to have Manzi become head of the Yang household. Could he ever have publicly claimed his fatherhood of Manzi?

Miss Chen would have been "promoted" to a very high rank, thus coming into many rewards herself. These she could have then passed on to Dr. Wong who then could use those rewards to enhance his fame and notoriety, which is all he cared about anyway.(less)
