Dr. Wong could not publicly admit paternity, but I think he could have benefitted financially if Manzi had become head of the Garden of Fragrant Delights. Miss Chen would have been "promoted" to a very high rank, thus coming into many rewards herself. These she could have then passed on to Dr. Wong who then could use those rewards to enhance his fame and notoriety, which is all he cared about anyway.
