Is it just me, or is this very similar to the Penelope Cruz movie "Woman on Top"? You know--food, magic, forbidden romance and all?

Thank you for that comment. Honestly, I had seen this book a few weeks ago and didn't buy it. In the meantime, I have re-imagined what I thought was the story and might have done so but when I read your comment I thought you are right and this book wasn't at all what I had been looking for. It turns out I have discovered a whole new genre of writing (Hooray), at least to me: Food History, Food journalism, Food Anthropology. My sister did her Masters years ago on recipes made during rationing and as kids we made up this book together called The Poverty Cookbook. The books I have discovered are far more fascinating than many novels. I have been binge watching Masterchef Australia, which is MUCH more about food and skill than the others and they mention lemon myrtle, which I cannot find, and this grew into a new fascination with spices and flavour combinations. Thank you!
