This question contains spoilers…
(view spoiler)[I've read DD twice but I get completely different elements when I listen to the audio book! I'm really confused about the Bastard. I thought Quadrenes didn't believe he existed at all but Otta calls him the demon god. Would you help me understand? (hide spoiler)]
Lois McMaster Bujold
Quadrenes absolutely believe the Bastard exists. It's His classification that is up for hot debate. Is He a god, or is He Something Else? To which the answer is "Yes", but some people can't cope with ambiguity. No coloring outside the lines if you're a Quadrene!
(People being people, they believe lots of other things, too, true and false, but that's outside the scope of this tiny typing box.)
(For even more bizarre real-world religious hairsplitting, look up the origin of the phrase "not one iota of difference" sometime... I wouldn't assert that it's the stupidest argument ever to change history, but it's certainly up there.)

Hi, I was just wondering if you've heard of or read Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell? I really enjoyed it, primarily because it felt a lot like Vorkosigan saga. Not in a derivative sense, but more in the sense of general feeling I got from it. I later learnt that Ms Maxwell is a fan of your work (and of Georgette Heyer's work, too), so I just felt like I had to put it on your radar. Cheers!

Hi Louis. Typos in Knot of Shadows at page 50 of 111, 44%, when Penric meets Learned Retaka: "Olive Street was marginally less crooked and narrow than its surrounding streets, alleys… passages. The dwellings on this southwest side were much cut-up by time and their residents, many to overcrowded chambers for, if not poor, working men and women and their families." Enjoyed it, as ever. Hope this helps?
