Josh Lanyon:
I wonder why Sam from AoM is so jealous. I wonder why Jason is so infatuated with Sam and still brings up Alexander and still Sipka. Sam seems to be popular with a lot of gays for his age, including Petty. Is it because it's the first serious love he's had in 20 years?

(view spoiler)[Actually, I don't think Sam is usually jealous. I think Ethan would have been the jealous one in their relationship, and probably Petty as well. Sam's jealousy regarding Jason is/was more about the precariousness of their relationship from the beginning.
As far as Sipka, Sam had basically ended the relationship with Jason, so he knew Jason was a free agent, and sure enough, Jason did indeed have a sexual liason with Sipka. I think it's reasonable that would sting Sam because it literally happened within a day or so of his breaking off with Jason. But at the same time, Sam has a background in psychology, so he would also understand some of Jason's motivations. It wouldn't make him happy, but he would know what happened and why.
Jason also isn't typically jealous. He was mostly surprised and confused to discover, after Sam's reluctance to get involved with him, that Sam was having some kind of relationship with Petty. But he wasn't too worried about Petty--he felt confident enough to tease Sam--until he and Sam had their blow up. Then, understandably, he felt more vulnerable where Petty was concerned.
Also, I don't think Sam would be particularly popular with ANYONE, although his legendary status and position of authority probably adds to his appeal for certain younger males, like Petty. In fact, Sam is respected but not particularly well-liked by a lot of his colleagues. His own team feels differently, but they see a different Sam than most do.
Alexander is a different situation in that Sam is aware Alexander is exactly what Jason's family would like for him. And he can also see that Jason would probably naturally gravitate to someone like Alexander. But he also knows enough about Jason to realize that ambitious and work-obsessed Jason would probably not be willing to invest the time and effort into making a relationship with someone like Alexander work.
In many ways, Jason and Sam are perfectly suited to each other. (hide spoiler)]
