Did anyone else wonder what Joe was doing in the barn every night? It seemed strange and I thought we'd find out. Or maybe it was just a way for Lara to be with the girls alone to talk about Duke? I think Joe was under-developed and oddly passive.

He was a hardworking family man; good husband and father. He just wasn't a big part of this particular story -- both during the Tom Lake summer when it was all about Duke, and in the present when it was all about telling the story of Duke. This was a snapshot of a specific time in Lara's history in which Joe was not a big player. (less)
