dnsyl57 asked Diana Xarissa:

I recently read "Aunt Bessie Decides". At one point, you give a brief synopsis of a book Bessie is about to read: "the lady in question was the widow of an enterprising criminal who had left his lovely wife with a notebook full of contacts for whatever emergencies might arise." What book is this referring to?

Diana Xarissa Sometimes I make up the books that Bessie is reading, but in this case, I was referring to Simon Brett's Mrs. Pargeter's books. The first book, A Nice Class of Corpse, came out in 1986 and I'm sure I read it not long after. They've all been republished recently and the series got a new title in 2023!
