Goodreads asked Doug Hufford:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Doug Hufford Before Setting Sun Story became a book, it was a pseudo screenplay project that kind of acted like a diary for me. A lot of my teenage issues were put into this little world that I could over time, view from an outside lens. When I began to put 2 and 2 together on a lot of said issues, (before many, many more made their debut into life,) I realized that I had created something worthy of being shared with the world.
As for the setting, and inspiration for fights and worldbuilding, I'm a big fan of the RPG genre, as well as fighting games, and wanted to design systems that would seem fun to play, while still deeply connecting into the themes and acting as symbology for the more nuanced ideas that I wanted people to reflect on themselves.
