CarolAnn They say the movie was "inspired" by the book. Personally, I didn't see any evidence that the moviemakers read the book.
Brian Harrison The word ' inspired' can be a very slippery thing in the movie business, allowing for any degree of interpretation.
The movie was good, but I feel quite sure that Alan Turing would have felt deeply offended at what was left out, and what remained - simplified !
Personally I am enjoying the book more, the math is fascinating, and so to is the story of the man himself.
Damon Henrichs "Inspired" by the book . . . in the same way "The Cook, The Thief, The Wife, The Lover" was inspired by the fact that I ate breakfast this morning.

And I didn't even eat breakfast this morning.
Gary The movie was *very* loosely based on the book. The movie paints a different picture of Turing, dramatically oversimplifies his computer work, and completely eliminates the math.
Greg The film focuses on about 1/3rd of this book: Turing's stupendous efforts during WW2 and then moves quickly to his death. Turing effectively started working on his universal computer in about 1936, and ten years later his computer seemed like it had simply fallen out of the sky. Turing and his fellow workers never talked about what they had done during the WW2 during their lifetimes, and only in the late 1970s the work slowly came to light. The movie is definitely Turing-Lite, and it was a good film.
Blinzelei The film people had obviously read the book, but then kind of stripped the content of the book off almost everything that is actually important and added tons of emotional hollywood fluffy stuff. Kaching! Just so sad.
Jennifer I agree With CarolAnn. Not much in the movie from the book.
Fernando Studzinski Yes, you are right. The movie is based on this book.
