Goodreads asked Dee Ann Waite:

How do you get inspired to write?

Dee Ann Waite My inspirations usually come after deep conversations with friends, family, and even strangers. If the subject stays with me long after its over, I eventually turn it into a story. The Consequential Element, for instance, came about after having a conversation with a woman friend who had no idea of the situation between China's monopoly on rare earth elements and the affects it is having on the security of the United States, as well as the 'butterfly effect' throughout the world.

Around this same time, I met a woman from the Congo who was an actual survivor of a rebel raid on her village. We talked at great lengths about her capture, survival, and eventual escape. She is an amazing woman and the epitome of strength, courage, and faith.

These subjects would not release me until I wrote them down. Hence, the evolution of The Consequential Element.
