Goodreads asked Lisa Lee Curtis:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Lisa Lee Curtis To just start writing. Anything. Keep a notebook in your desk drawer or your purse or backpack. But keep one near you. You can use the notes in your phone if you'd prefer, but once you set a goal to write, ideas can come at ANY TIME. And you need to write them all down. And then expound on them when it moves you.

This is what I started doing when I decided to standup and it was amazing how much I found myself going, "Oh, shit, I need to write this down." And every time I didn't write it down? IT WAS JUST GONE FOREVER. I finally stopped counting on myself to remember something I hadn't written down.

But yeah, long and short of it - just write. Even if it's all garbage at first. You have to start somewhere. Putting it off forever is going to lead to some massive regret.
