Max Elkjær Nersting
Max Elkjær Nersting asked Mark Lawrence:

Hi Mark Is the »ver« in »ver Snagason« pronounced with an f-sound, as in German »von« (fon) or Dutch »van« (fan)? In my mind I am inclined to pronounce it as »fer Snagason«, but I know that many anglophones would not. I would love to know how you pronounce it.

Mark Lawrence Very often when reading I will simply visually "recognise" words that I don't know how to pronounce rather than pronounce them in my head. This means that when it comes time to talk about a fantasy book I am often making up the pronunciation for the first time.

This can also happen with books I write, though for many years it was clarified at the audiobook stage when the company contacted me with a list of questions similar to yours.

The people who make my audiobooks don't do that any more, so I can reach the public discussion stage without ever having spoken / pronounced a character or place name :D

In this case though, I say it like it looks (to me) with a 'v' like neither the German or Dutch.

I am more than happy for anyone else to say it however they please though. Jorg, for example, is J-org in the US audiobooks and Yorg in the UK ones. I don't mind what readers use.
