Hi, Elizabeth! I was wondering if any of the characters in Code Name Verity were queer? If not, could you picture any of them being so?

Elizabeth Wein I think that's *totally* up to the reader (or the characters) to decide! I tried very consciously to leave things open-ended. It's not a story about sexuality but about friendship, and I made a decision not to bring romance into the story because I wanted to focus on friendship.

I am very open-minded about their sexuality and enjoy hearing readers' speculations. One thing people don't seem to take much into account is the cultural background of the time - these characters would NOT have felt comfortable explicitly discussing sex - either their preferences or their experiences - in the context of the story as it's set out.

Hello! I love your books! I was wondering what happened to Ityopis Anbessa? When Sofya and Telemakos talked about who might be the emperor's heir, she said her brothers were dead, sequestered, ruling Himyar or in Britain. But the last I heard, Ityopis was free, in Askum and didn't seem useless or dangerous, so now I wonder if he died or moved to another country or something. (I hope he didn't die, I really liked him!)
