Yes you can. Is the book about the paranormal or the state of mind of the protagonist? You decide. A great book.

Indeed. I am a rationalist -- math major in university. A total fact-and-science-obsessed numbers geek. And I love King. His characters are incredibly realistic... realer than some "literary" writers like Hemingway and Frazen IMHO. Plus, King's paranormal stuff always comes off symbolically to me. So if like any sort of fantastic story -- science fiction, fantasy, TV shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," or even animated films like "Toy Story," odds are you'll dig King.

What is there to be rational about with a book? Its a work of "Fiction", unless stated otherwise. Therefore, you can't possibly expect things to stay true to the laws of nature.
Walid Dib
He's written The Shawshank redemption, which sits at a comfortable #1 highest rated movie of all time on IMDB.
The book is a work of fiction, but is not paranormal.

I am a rationalist and enjoys his books very much. You will too.
Nishat
nope they aren't & of course you can.

Yes, but it depends on the book. I'm also a rationalist reader and I didn't enjoy at all The Dark Tower. Too much fantasy for me. But I liked a lot The Shining, Doctor Sleep, Mr. Mercedes, Christine. I recommend you "JFK: 22.11.63". Just a little bit of fantasy, the book is awesome.

I started with Revival. Not so much paranormal but interesting.

You might like 11/22/63 as well

Did you like Shawshank redemption? The Green Mile? Stand by Me (The Body)? they were all written by Stephen King....he can master any genre he just so happens to gravitate toward horror but not always...and when he does or doesn't he writes masterclass material!!
Henry
100% great book for any age

It's not so much the paranormal, but psychological torment. It has many paranormal elements, but they're mostly causing the psychological torment. Give it a try, it might surprise you.

He takes me , my honey , when he is Ba , i am Be. Wawwwww
Dennis Kenton
No. Very few of Stephen King's books are paranormal.

I'm also a rationalist and I loved The Shining and the rest of Stephen King's paranormal-themed works. It's fiction, just that, it's not trying to make you believe in the superntural. Being a rationalist doesn't prevent you from enjoying great works of fiction like The Lord of the Rings, Frankenstein and The Dark Tower.
