Here’s my take: “Clean” is not a well-defined criteria in the world of literature. From my understanding, a book is clean if it contains no profanity and no romantic encounters beyond kissing. Technically, if there’s language, it isn’t clean. But I heard nearly every swear word in English while riding my junior high bus, and many YA books include more, ahem, “intimacy” scenes. If you’re looking for a 10yo, I wouldn’t recommend it. But 13-plus might be OK.(less)
