So I had a question about Noor. Obviously she was physically abused by her uncle on pg. 224 and it was implied by Misbah that she was abused before because of the bruise on her arm. What confused me was that Noor didn't really allude to that incident or any other incidents with her uncle in any of "her" chapters. Was Chachu's violence just started recently during this novel or has it been going on for a while, then?

On page 192/193 there is a dialog exchange between Noor and Jamie in which Jamie says to Noor,…moreMy impression is that it had been going on for a while. On page 192/193 there is a dialog exchange between Noor and Jamie in which Jamie says to Noor, “I know your little secret. Your other secret.”
Noor feels relief at this, not fear or anger, but relief that finally someone knows.
Jamie was actually talking about Salahudin writing Noor’s essays but what I took from it is that the physical abuse was the other secret Noor was hiding.(less)
